1957 Student Strike

STUDENT STRIKE 1957

In 1957, there was considerable turmoil in the school system with the firing of coach/athletic director Glen Buffalo and teacher Charles Rose. Exact details are long forgotten but widely attended school board meetings were held in the high school auditorium and at least one lasted late into the night. About 100 students went on strike in protest to the firing of the coach by standing across the street. It is doubtful they knew all the issues but it did make the Houston Post newspaper.
